Near-the-shelf

Because every customer’s requirement are slightly different, Avco believes that best value software is often a combination of ‘off the shelf’ and bespoke. We call this concept ‘near the shelf’.

Packaged software applications have an element of ‘one size fits all’. The ‘near the shelf’ approach is appropriate in cases where a customer comes to Avco with a requirement that has the need to deliver features or functions that are not available in off the shelf packages. Where Avco has done something similar for another customer, it might prove possible to apply to a new solution, techniques or experience gained from an earlier project (a database design or a data conversion process, for example).

Near the shelf software often proves a more competitive option for the end user. The key to its success is Avco’s ability to tailor generic applications to suit individual needs. Avco’s AnyComms and Payroll EDI software are examples of products that can be used ‘out of the box’, but can also be given additional features or customised to a particular customer’s specific needs.
