At a glance
North Somerset Council provides support for 78 schools, delivering education to approximately 28,000 pupils. With nearly half of the council budget spent on running the education system, North Somerset Council’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards is reflected by their decision to use Avco’s SC&WF application for analysing school data, coupled with AnyComms for collaborating with their schools and educational institutions.
The Problem
For delivering quality education, North Somerset Council employs numerous teachers and school support staff to cater to its pupils. For collecting information about these teachers and pupils, the council needed a solution that allowed schools to efficiently and reliably transfer census files on time. The solution should enable all schools to submit files, irrespective of the MIS used to generate them. As long as the files were of the correct format, the system should be able to transfer the files.
The Approach
Avco’s School Census and Work force utility enables the council and schools to do exactly that. The utility allows schools to generate datasets of their employees’ and pupils’ data. Once the datasets have been generated, they are sent, using AnyComms, to the Local Authority for processing as required. The application manages the naming and generation of datasets in order to facilitate their versioning. The utility also supports report creation, enabling generation of reports according to any criteria with a single click.
